Right, I have a story to tell. So, for a recap, we started the story off in a forest, probably a rainforest in Africa, but I forgot most of the research I did on this story. And yes, I do research on aspects of my story, like whether or not parrots were colorblind. Turns out they can see most colors. (Artemis: The main character is Mosshead, his mother is Ashwing, and Rubytail is a parrot from the flock that stayed the night and just brought scary info to Ashwing.) I coud have told them that. It's not my fault I like to hang on details. But yeah, I'll move on already.
Two weeks after that, my wings finally came, full-grown. When I first flew, the only one worried was Ashwing. She kept saying to just fly to the next tree and come right back. i wanted to fly all the way to the Blue Claw River, far away from the trees. I had to get a name other than Mosshead, there was no way I would stick to a name like the one I have now. I saw some of my friends, their wings spread out on the edge of their nests, feeling the breeze against their wings. Mother nudged me off the nest saying, "Fly well, Mosshead" Fear was evident in her voice, easier to detect than a breeze on my wings. Poor mother, I thought, she is so scared for me. The thought gave me some peace, knowing that the conversation with Ashwing and Rubytail was just something like that. Then she gently nudged me out of the nest.
At first I squawked in fright as I fell down to the ground. Then I felt it, a beeze on my wings, a light one at that but a breeze to carry me upwards. Then I remembered to flap, pushing me higher up into the air. I circled around, exhilarated by the feeling. Flying is the most amazing thing ever. All my worries about my name and anything else dissappeared into the sky. Soon after Softclaw, Sunbird and Snowhead, being the biggest and having larger wings, flew up to meet me. Redwing was lagging to come up with us, having to take two flaps for one of Softclaw's. We all then flew over all the branches and in between the leaves. We had contests to see who could fly the highest up.
Once i had flown for a few minutes, I veered to my left, straight for the Blue Claw. My friends all just thought I needed a drink or a bath, I made sure of that. I noticed a strange tall bird in the distance. I flew straight for him, curious. He didn't look like anything I'd seen before. Pretty soon, everything went dark. I panicked, thrashing myself against the invisible attacker, trying to call for help but none came. Then it dawned on me that somehow the tall bird had created the darkness. That tall bird had caught me like a worm! Where's Ashwing when you need her?
I kept on thrashing until I was dumped into a weird nest. It was made of trees, but I saw no leaves. And on the bottome was a white down, and yet it wasn't down. There were several birds, all terrified like me. Of all the terrified masses I saw Rubytail, plucking his red feathers in nervousness. I waddled over to him and greeted him. When he didn't reply I started to preen his feathers in a hope to calm him down. It worked some, he stopped plucking his feathers and told me what happned to him. It was uncanny how similar our stories were. Then chatter broke out, everybird was telling the same story, how they came here. I was about to ask Rubytail what this meant when the nest shook violently and all birds stopped chattering immediately, afraid any squawking would shake the nest again.
That's it for now. I am going to check my email again and surf the web. Karl just got back from his vacation this weeekend and I'm praying I won't have any work this week so I can spend time with him. But it's nine PM, so I can't do much about anything. (Vervada: Just say goodbye already!) Wow, I know you don't like Karl, but that's not reason to get snappy. (Artemis: Don't be a grumpy snapping turtle, Vervada!) In case you didn't already know, this is fairly normal in my little world. Or at least when I'm writing.
Okay, I'll leave you now. See you tomorrow.
